Travel further and deeper into the Hokkaido backcountry on this 10 day guided ski tour. This trip takes you off the beaten path and away from the crowds in search of the goods around Hokkaido. While we will still visit Hokkaido's best resorts, expect more backcountry touring than lift accessed skiing. We will cap this trip off with two days of private cat skiing iwth Hokkaido Backcountry Club's Shimamaki Snowcat operation.
In an effort to keep competition low, we aren't publishing the exacti locations for the trip or where we will stay each night. However we will share that the trip will start and Asahikawa and end in Shimamaki, accomodations will be quiet and offer onsens (hot springs baths), and the snow will be deep and plenty.
This trip includes:
Two guided cat skiing days, 6 other guided ski days, 2 days lift tickets, 9 nights accommodation(twin/shared) with breakfast, 5 dinners, hot springs at most hotels, avalanche safety equipment, and all transfers except departure airport transfer
Dinners in Shimamaki consist of mostly seafood prepared in traditional Japanese style.

Questions & Answers

For snowboarders, critical skills are the ability to hold a strong edge allowing for good high traverses without losing too much elevation and the ability to read terrain effectively.
For skiers, the biggest challenge typically comes with skiing through deep snow and through trees. Most of Hokkaido’s skiable terrain occurs below treeline so its important that you are able to consistently turn where the terrain dictates. Managing this in deep snow is of particular importance. A great tool to help improve your ability is a good set of fat skis.
In terms of going up hill, you should be able to hike for several hours over the course of the day. Experience on backcountry equipment is not required but please advise us at the time of booking how much backcountry experience you have so that we can plan and prepare accordingly.
